Customer Profile: Erin

This week we introduce you to our lovely customer, Erin! Erin has brought us a lot of items that usually need small adjustments to be wearable. For her most recent fitting she brought us this strapless dress and explained that she loved the color and fabric of the bottom (which was a lightweight, soft woven fabric with pockets!) , but felt that it just didn’t work as an actual dress because of the knit top.  It was easy to see why: the stretchy top part of the dress was not big enough for any woman to cover up even a strapless bra.  This was an unfortunate patterning uh-oh from the manufacturer.  In addition for strapless garments, they generally need to be anchored at the waist so they don’t fall down :s  Moral of the story, we suggested turning this into her new staple summer maxi skirt, pockets ‘n all!

Our Tailored Closet: Bowtie Pin(up)

Girls, I think we can all agree that DC summers are a sweaty hot mess.  But sometimes you want to look cute.  Julie’s outfit is a perfect example of staying cute while staying cool.  Her short, cotton, breathable City Bloomers are paired with a bright color pop with the perfect neckline.  And for the final touches, she tucked in the waist with a brown leather belt that matched her shoes with a punch of blue, put on her staple studs, and topped it of with a bow tie pin she made out of an old measuring tape.

Customer Profile: Charlie

Charlie, our PR aficionado and shop lady, brought us this purple dress she’d received from her grandmother. Cute pattern! But the drop waist and the length were out of date and not Charlie’s style, and in general are hard for a woman to pull off.

About a Dress #7

This week’s About a Dress began life as (what I like to call)  “Coldwater Creek classic” : a basic linen shirtdress. Practical, yes, but ultimately so generic looking. The color caught my eye though, as it’s perfect for summer or fall.
