Will has been in a few times, and this time he brought in a vest that was really great but just too short. He was hoping we could let down the bottom, but unfortunately in men’s vests with the points on the bottom, they have the trim out all of the excess in order to achieve that crisp shape. I was upfront that since there were no traditional tailoring options available, this would involve more of a creative revamping.
Basically we had 2 options: to add a stripe of contrasting fabric at the hem, or pop open the shoulders and add a contrasting yolk. He decided to go for the shoulder idea.
I popped open the shoulders, picked out a few fabrics from our vintage collection and brought him back in. After picking a fabric and figuring out the width of the yolk, I went ahead and patterned the yolk and decided to polish everything off with bright red decorative stitching (our camera does not do this red justice)! The old stitching was khaki, and this vest required something with more jazz!
Now Will has a one-of-a-kind vest to rock in DC.
