We’d taken a little break from About a Dress while we refocused our energy on the upstairs tailoring shop, but we are back up and running! About a year back, we start this project, which takes a thrifted dress and repurposes it into something fun, and are on dress number 30! Enjoy!
This week’s dress came from Rock it Again, when they were cleaning out some damaged goods. This one had some tears here and there, and some grease stains, but had soooo much potential. I mean you can’t really go wrong with bright green and bright yellow silk!

First things first, I chopped off the green trim at the bottom with the rip so I could salvage the good fabric and recycle it into one of our Lady Ties! Next I added tiny decorative pleats across center front to disguise the stained areas and hemmed the sleeves a bit and reset the shoulders to get rid of the remaining holes. For the finishing touch, I hemmed the bottom cropped in front and longer in back with little slits, and there you go!
Wear these two as a set with the Lady Tie higher, and pair with a pencil skirt to wear to work. Or wear the Lady Tie longer with some short shorts, your favorite boots, mess up your hair a little, and find your red lipstick! And don’t forget you can wear them separately too!
