This week’s About a Dress began life as (what I like to call) “Coldwater Creek classic” : a basic linen shirtdress. Practical, yes, but ultimately so generic looking. The color caught my eye though, as it’s perfect for summer or fall.
To start, the collar had to go. Then I cut off the button plackets and reattached them on a diagonal across the body. The hem lost about 4″, and the buttons went from a dark brown to straight up black. In keeping with the buttons, I did black top stitching down center front, and edged the neckline and sleeve cuff with black trim. The result is a new classic, your average shirt-dress with a lot more personality. Wear it in the fall with tights, boots, and a cardigan. Or Pair it with sandals and a killer necklace to Sunday brunch. either way, you’ll feel comfortable, cute, and anything but boring!
One last thing! all the jewelry in these photos (and more!) is on sale this weekend, July 28-29! It’s a Ginger Root first, so now’s the perfect time to finally get that chunky ring or statement necklace you’ve been eyeing for awhile. Cause trust me, if you don’t snag it this weekend, someone else will! To get the discount just mention this blog post!
