This week’s “dress” is actually an oversized 80s blouse that we scored at Martha’s Outfitters down the street: our go-to thrift shop for items with so much sewing potential!
This blouse had shoulder pads, a bit of discoloring in the armpits (after DC summers, who’s doesn’t?), and absolutely no tailoring–basically a perfect item for us to work with!
First we chopped off the sleeves and collar and tailored the sides. We wanted this item to be perfect for going out with friends or wearing to work, so we recut the sleeves so they had a nice drape and could easily be paired with a cardigan. We wanted to add a little more shape, so we added darts across the back to play with the pattern on the back but also tuck in the waist.
Now this blouse is perfect to wear with cute little shorts (AKA City Bloomers) and a Lauren Joan statement necklace, or pair with some skinny cut black slacks and classic necklace and you’re ready for work without sacrificing style.
Wear this revamped dress with this Lauren Joan necklace.
See you next week!
