This week’s About a Dress originated as a Target impulse buy. You know, when you walk into Target, feeling like you could use a bit of a wardrobe refresh, and BAM! They get you to drop $20 on a brightly colored slip dress. Then, at home, when you finally try it on, you realize that the proportions are all wrong.
This very scenario happened to a friend of mine, and this dress was the result of that impulse. We’re not sure who the bodice was cut to fit. A, B, or C cup- none of us looked good. The colors were so perfect, but the lightweight material was so floaty, it didn’t seem right for a winter skirt. What to do…
Lately I’ve been obsessed with layering. Specifically, I’ve been obsessed with layering tights and lace knit tops under thigh high socks, bloomers, and tunics. In keeping with that look, I removed the bodice of the dress (cut out that gross elastic!) and flipped the skirt on it’s side to cut out a drapey tunic top. I left the hem asymmetrical, and added a side vent for ease. Now it’s perfect for layering over skinny black jeans, or tucked into a fitted leather skirt.
Get this dress at our store or in our online shop!
Modeling for us is one of Ginger Root’s favorite artists, Ms. Jennifer Jeremias. She just stopped in to say hello, and we just HAD to take a break and play dress up 🙂
If you’re wondering what happened to the top half of the dress, check us out next week. It’s an About a Dress twofer!
